Artist Feature: DEMAR

We’re coming at you today with a newer female musician by the name of DEMAR – A Miami bread alt-pop artist.

DEMAR is turning heads and going viral – thanks to a Kendrik Lamar cover [Swimming Pool (Drank)]. Her lyrics rewrite the classic subject matters many songs take on in a way that hasn’t quite been done before. Her voice has hints of Demi Lovato and Halsey but still keeps to an original beat. She fits well into the modern day pop stars but is still new enough where she can make a true original name for herself that won’t get lost amongst the masses. Being this fresh in the game DEMAR has so much power to try so many new things before people put a defining label on her. She has this luxury – that many artists and bands no longer have – to basically do what she feels is right for each song she produces instead of having to conform the song to fit this preconceived image or mold that a label has set forth.

When it comes to new artists though, I highly recommend seeing them live. Hearing anyone on a recorded track, it’s very polished and finished. Hearing a track live you get a full sense of who the artist is. Being able to see how the musician handles a raw version of something that already has a polished counterpart gives you a better understanding of who they are as a performer and creator.

If you are close to NYC, you’ll be able to check out DEMAR sooner rather than later as she is set to preform at the iconic Pianos in LES [Lower East Side]. This Wednesday, October 18 at 7:30PM DEMAR will be live as she gears up for the release of her debut EP – Rebels.

If you can’t make it out to the show [or you just want to prep yourself for it] you can stream her music on Spotify, Soundcloud or her Website [all of which will be linked below].

Check her out [live and streamed], become a fan, or let us know what you think about the direction that the pop genre is heading.
