State Champs – 5/9 @ TLA in Philadelphia

Written by | Headlines, Show Review

Two years ago I saw State Champs headline the Pure Noise Tour at The Barbary, a 250 cap venue. Today on May 9, 2017, I was able to see them headline at the Theatre of the Living Arts, a 1200 cap venue. The thing is not only did they headline the TLA they sold it out. I’ve seen this band grow since the beginning and I couldn’t be any more proud then I currently am. Their spring tour they brought Against The Current and With Confidence to do the entire run. I had never see Against The Current or With Confidence, so I was stoked to be able to check them out finally.

With Confidence blew me out of the water, the Australian natives have a certain flare to them that put them above the rest. Something is interesting about this band, and I foresee a lot of big things for them in the future.

I still don’t understand how this was the first time I saw Against The Current, they have been around for a while and they’ve toured with various artists of whom I enjoy. Nonetheless, this was my first time seeing them, and man do I love Chrissy Constanza’s voice, it’s something that is so pure and simple but in a sophisticated manner. I know think about that one for a moment. I cannot wait to see Against The Current again.

Then there’s the one the only State Champs, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen them but I guess they’ve been around the world and back. The energy immediately picked up as soon as they entered the stage. The crowed rushed forward to get a better look at these smart men and get ready for the time of their lives. Second song in and it was already my favorite song “Losing Myself” so I knew then I was going to love this setlist. About halfway through their set, they slowed things down a bit. Chrissy Constanza came out to sing with Derek. The entire show was a whirlwind of emotions that I couldn’t replace for the world. If you’ve never heard of State Champs before, you’re apparently living under a rock but seriously check them out listen to their music and embark on an adventure of their music library.
